How I Quote a Pressure Washing Job in Under 5 Minutes

By Mike Vidan|Updated June 2026|10 min read
The Short Version

I have been pricing pressure washing jobs since 1997, and the quote that used to take me a drive across town and a clipboard now takes under 5 minutes from my phone. The workflow: measure the property from satellite imagery with MapMeasure Pro inside QuoteIQ (60 seconds), build the estimate from my saved service pricing (90 seconds), structure it as a Good/Better/Best options estimate (60 seconds), review and attach terms (45 seconds), and send it by text and email with view tracking turned on (15 seconds). Speed is not a vanity metric — the first contractor to respond wins the job about half the time, and responding within 5 minutes instead of 30 produces a 21x higher contact rate. This is the exact process, minute by minute.

Why Speed-to-Quote Wins Jobs (The Numbers)

Before I walk through the process, understand why this matters. When a homeowner requests a pressure washing quote, they are usually requesting three or four quotes at the same time. They are sitting at their kitchen table going down a list. Whoever gets a real number in front of them first frames the entire decision.

The speed data: The first vendor to respond wins the job roughly 50% of the time. Responding to a lead within 5 minutes versus 30 minutes produces a 21x higher contact rate. The average contractor takes 42 minutes just to respond — and days to deliver an actual quote. A 5-minute quote does not just save you time. It puts your number in the customer’s hands while every competitor is still listening to the voicemail.

For 20 years I did this the slow way. Drive to the property. Walk it with a tape measure or pace it off. Scribble numbers on a clipboard. Drive back. Type it up. Email it the next day — if I remembered. By then, the customer had two other quotes and one of those companies had already called to follow up. The jobs I lost were not lost on price. They were lost on speed.

The 5-Minute Quote, Minute by Minute

This is the exact workflow I run when a pressure washing lead comes in — a house wash, driveway, and patio quote, start to send.

1

Minute 1: Measure the Property From Satellite

The customer gives me their address — that is all I need. I pull the property up in MapMeasure Pro inside QuoteIQ and trace the surfaces from the aerial view: driveway, sidewalks, patio, pool deck, roof if they asked about it. The square footage calculates automatically as I trace. Sixty seconds and I know exactly what I am pricing without leaving my chair. No windshield time, no gas, no “I can come out Thursday to take a look.”

2

Minute 2: Build the Estimate From Saved Services

Every service I sell lives in QuoteIQ with my pricing already attached — house wash by square footage, driveway and concrete by the square foot, gutter brightening by linear foot, roof treatment priced by size and pitch. I tap the services this job needs, the measurements from MapMeasure Pro drive the math, and the line items populate with my real prices. No mental math at 7 PM, no underquoting because I was rushing. The price is the price, every time.

3

Minute 3: Structure It as Good/Better/Best

I never send a single take-it-or-leave-it number. I use the Options Estimate format in QuoteIQ to build three tiers: Good (house wash only), Better (house wash + driveway), Best (house + driveway + patio + gutter brightening). Customers who see options spend more — they stop asking “should I hire him?” and start asking “which package do I want?” The upsell is built into the quote itself. Nobody has to sell anything on the phone.

4

Minute 4: Review, Attach Terms, Add the Guarantee

Quick pass over the estimate: measurements right, tiers priced right, my standard terms attached — what is included, what surfaces we treat, the no-rinse explanation if there is a roof on the quote, and the satisfaction guarantee. These are saved templates in QuoteIQ, so attaching them is one tap, not ten minutes of retyping. This is also where I drop in a before-and-after photo from a similar job in their neighborhood.

5

Minute 5: Send by Text and Email — With Tracking On

I hit send and the estimate goes out by text and email simultaneously. Half the time the customer is still on the phone with me when it lands — and I hear it: “Oh wow, it just came through.” That moment wins jobs. From here, QuoteIQ tracks everything: I see when they open it, how many times they view it, and whether they have clicked accept. The customer can approve and pay a deposit right from their phone, or book directly through InstaSchedule.

What Happens After I Hit Send

The quote is out in 5 minutes — but the system keeps working after I move on to the next call.

View tracking tells me who is hot. If a customer opens the estimate six or seven times, they are interested and probably comparing. That is my signal to make one well-timed call: “Saw you had a chance to look things over — any questions on the packages?” I am not guessing who to follow up with. The data tells me.

Automated follow-ups catch the ones who go quiet. If an estimate sits unopened or unaccepted, my follow-up sequence fires automatically — a text at day 3, an email at day 7, another touch at day 14. I wrote those messages once. They run forever. This is the system that recovers 30–40% of estimates that would otherwise die in an inbox — the full breakdown is in my guide on how to recover declined estimates.

InstaQuote handles the leads I never touch. A chunk of my quotes now happen with zero minutes of my time: homeowners hit the InstaQuote tool on my website, enter their address and the services they want, and get instant pricing built on the same saved rates I use. They can schedule on the spot through InstaSchedule. I wake up to booked jobs.

The math on a season: If the old way cost me 60–90 minutes per quote (drive, measure, write, send) and I quoted 300 jobs a season, that is 300–450 hours — ten to eleven full work weeks — spent producing paper. At 5 minutes per quote, the same 300 quotes take 25 hours. The other 400+ hours go back into washing, selling, or not working at all.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do you quote a pressure washing job?

Measure the surfaces (house square footage, driveway, patio, roof), apply per-square-foot pricing for each service, structure the estimate as tiered options (Good/Better/Best), attach terms and a guarantee, and deliver it by text and email immediately. With satellite measurement tools like MapMeasure Pro in QuoteIQ, the entire process takes under 5 minutes without visiting the property.

Can you quote a pressure washing job without visiting the property?

Yes. Satellite measurement tools measure driveways, roofs, patios, and concrete from aerial imagery with automatic square-foot calculation. MapMeasure Pro inside QuoteIQ handles this for the majority of residential quotes. The exceptions are heavily tree-covered properties, unusual surfaces, or commercial jobs with access considerations — those still warrant an on-site visit before final pricing.

How much should I charge for pressure washing?

Residential house washes typically run $200–$500 depending on size and siding. Driveways and concrete run $100–$300. Roof soft washing runs $300–$750. The reliable approach is per-square-foot pricing saved as service templates, so every quote uses the same math and you never underprice from memory. Heavy growth, multi-story access, and steep roofs justify premiums above base rates.

Why should pressure washing quotes include multiple options?

Tiered Good/Better/Best estimates change the customer’s decision from “should I hire this company?” to “which package do I want?” Customers presented with options consistently select more than the minimum — the middle and top tiers capture upsells (driveway, patio, gutter brightening, roof treatment) without any sales pressure. Options estimates are a built-in format inside QuoteIQ.

How fast should a contractor send a quote?

As fast as possible — ideally while the customer is still engaged. The first contractor to respond wins roughly 50% of jobs, and responding within 5 minutes versus 30 minutes produces a 21x higher contact rate. The average contractor takes 42 minutes to respond and days to deliver a quote, which is exactly why a 5-minute quote workflow is a competitive weapon.

What is InstaQuote in QuoteIQ?

InstaQuote is an instant online quoting tool that lives on a contractor’s website. Homeowners enter their address, select the services they want, and receive immediate pricing built on the contractor’s saved rates — then book directly through InstaSchedule. It converts website visitors into quoted, scheduled jobs with zero minutes of the contractor’s time.

How do you know if a customer viewed your estimate?

Estimate view tracking inside QuoteIQ shows when a customer opens an estimate, how many times they have viewed it, and whether they have accepted. Multiple views without acceptance is a buying signal — the customer is interested and comparing. That is the moment for one well-timed follow-up call instead of guessing who to chase.

What software do I need to quote pressure washing jobs fast?

You need four capabilities in one platform: satellite property measurement, saved per-service pricing, tiered options estimates, and instant text/email delivery with view tracking. QuoteIQ includes all four starting at $29.99 per month with a 14-day free trial — plus InstaQuote for website self-service quoting and automated follow-up sequences for estimates that stall.

This entire workflow runs on QuoteIQ — the platform I co-founded after 25+ years of quoting jobs the slow way. Every feature in this post (MapMeasure Pro, Options Estimates, InstaQuote, InstaSchedule, view tracking, automated follow-ups) is included on plans starting at $29.99 per month with a 14-day free trial. For the technical side of the work itself — chemicals, equipment, and process — the How To Wash course is at pwcourse.com.
